One big rip off!
You knew it was coming! Gas prices are 3.19 a gallon here for regular unleaded fuel. Ridiculous!!!
Ridiculous only if you ignore the common laws of supply and demand. The government still profits more off a gallon of gas than any other entity including the oil companies.
Expensive? Sure. Unreasonable? Perhaps! Do I want to pay less? Fur sur! But consider a few things, if you will... (1) Limited drilling for oil for many years. (2) No refineries in 30 years. (3) Fuel taxes. (4) Special blends in many states. (5) Seasonal changover of blends. (6) Increased domestic consumption. (7) Increased international consumption (China & India especially). *** The oil business operates on a long-term plan. For many years crude prices and gas prices were very low (in part hurting Saddam Hussain's bottom line) and oil companies still had to expend resources for discovery, drilling, transport, and refining the crude. For many years the operated at a loss. Now they are balancing their multi-year financial sheets with some profits, making up for previous deficits. How about looking into the ten-year balance sheets of "big oil"? ** How often are we critical of other companies that make profits? Like big media? Like Microsoft? Like Sony? And many pharmacutical companies make handsome profits, year after year. ** We need to be careful how critical we are of the foundation of our nation! We were built on freedom, including free-market and free-enterprise systems. ** I'd rather not pay $3 or $4 a gallon, but I think instead of blaming big oil, we should blame local and state governments for their "not-in-my-back-yard" refusal to allow new refinery construction, and state and federal governments for blocking oil drilling between Cuba and the Gulf Coast (right where Castro is now drilling, by the way!) and in small regions of Alaska and other areas of the United States.

If it's any consolation at all, we paid $7 (yes--SEVEN!!) a gallon in Germany a couple of months ago.

But that's just my opinion!
