Meow, meow, meow, meow, er, you know the song

Thought you might want an update on the kitties (or not). Lane thinks he's found a home for these fuzzy little stinkers (and I mean that literally). A lady who takes in unwanted and homeless animals has expressed interest. She works to find good families to take care of them. Good for her! She hasn't picked them up yet but he's hoping she does so anyday. It's not too late if you change your mind :)

Meow!

Music greats and a charitable weekend...

I love old school country music. Don Williams, Belamy Brothers, Tanya Tucker, Alabama, Hank Williams Jr., Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette just to name a few. Does anyone else remember the days of "Hee Haw?" That was a Saturday night tradition growing up. Mom would cook dinner first. We would sit around the table, eat and talk about the day. Then, we would help clean up and after Lawrence Welk, mom, dad Chris and I would grab a place in the den and watch "Hee Haw." Sunday night after church we would eat a banana sandwich and Funyun Rings and watch "Battlestar Gallatica" and "Buck Rogers." Doesn't get much better!!!! I miss those days.

I have really enjoyed this summer. The weather has been HOT but I'm that strange kind of person that lives for long sizzling days. Speaking of which, this Sunday I got the chance to attend the Emergency Medical Services Challenge at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville. It was a charity race between HEMSI, State Troopers, Huntsville Fire and Rescue, Madison County Sheriff's Department and Huntsville Police. Due to a little partying the night before, MCSD and HEMSI had to drop out of the race. :) One of the local car companies donated a "gently" used Ford Taurus for the EMS team to compete in. Picture this -- high speed racing cars, souped up go carts...and a 4 door family sedan . I think the best time for any of the drivers on the EMS team was 54 seconds. Not bad considering a Taurus isn't exactly a racing machine! The best part, the day was for a good cause and everybody had fun! Congratulations to the State Troopers for winning. They get there practice on the interstates! ha/ha Also kudos to Tyler! You did a great job on your first race!

Local tie to the Olympics...

So its after 10 pm and I'm sitting in the newsroom waiting for the Olympics to finish up. We can't go on until today's events wraps up. The schedule says 11:30. YUCK! However, makes for good overtime :)

This is a picture of my friend, and former Decatur Bureau Photographer, Juergen Beck. He is in Beijing shooting video for the Olympics. What a cool job! I'm very proud of him. He jumped out of television news to start his own production company. Looks like his hard work has paid off. Congrats JB and have fun!!

Does America REALLY have talent?

I'm sitting in the newsroom waiting for my 10:00 spot on the news. Playing on NBC is "America's Got Talent." Some of the people on there are so gifted. Then there are others that are, well, not so much!

I know its been a long time since my last post. My excuse is this. I don't really have one other than just being lazy. As with every post I will make this solemn promise -- I will try harder!

Is it hot enough for you? I know it is for me but I'm one of those strange people who LOVES summer in the south! The heat and humidity beats freezing to death. I've never been much for cold weather. Makes my old bones hurt and gives me static in my hair :) No woman wants that!?!?!

I spent most of the day at the Moontown Airport. 2 people died in a plane crash just west of there. Very sad. No matter how many tragic and bad scenes you go out on it never gets easier. In fact, it gets tougher. Makes you realize how precious life is. You should love everyday given you and embrace the ones around you that mean the world to you.

Fresh garden vegetables are by far the best invention EVER! I brought home a basket of grandma grown tomatoes, corn, watermelon, peppers and peaches. I've so enjoyed reaping the benefits of her gardening. SO delicious and much better than even what you buy at the farmer's market -- not to mention its FREE!!!!

Are you in the market for a kitty cat? Lane has 5 snuggly little ones he's more than willing to give away to a good home. If you are like me and have cat related allergies, he'll even tie a Benadryl around kitties neck. Let me know if you want one. It will be the best investment you ever make (ok not really but he desperatly needs to get rid of the kitties and doesn't want to have to drop them at the animal shelter).

Hope everyone has a good "hump day!"
