Just after 5 tonight, the jury found Mary Winkler guilty of voluntary manslaughter. She could spend 3-6 years in jail or 1-3 years with probation. Her attorney's call this "justice served."
The Winklers were obviously upset but humble. They made a brief statement to the media asking us to respect the privacy of the family and the couple's 3 daughters. They wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns. They ask that you continue to pray for everyone concerned.
Mary's facial expression never changed. She was like stone while the judge read her punishment. The Winkler's made no obvious outbursts. It was quiet as a mouse in the courtroom, even after the verdict was read.
Mary will be sentenced May 18 at 9 am.

Thank you Elizabeth for the kind and thoughtful way you have covered this case. It is all so very sad. It touches our hearts and we grieve for those three little girls whose lives have been altered forever. Our heavenly Father will bless them. Peace.
Seems like a light sentence for taking away a daddy from three little girls. I know that we don't know what went on in that house but three little girls won't have their dad to give them away and their children won't have a Papa. Not to mention the many unsaved souls who may never hear the Gospel. What a sad day.
Matthew Winkler was seen as "humble" by the rest of the world too.
Watching Mary Winkler's testimony and her beaten image tells me he was not.
Don't let the shirt and tie fool you . I saw him on the witness stand with his loud overbearing voice and that is probably the demeanor he uses with his family when things don't go his way as it didn't with the defense lawer. I saw some bullying there I would not call "humble".
